1.24 karat means 100% pure gold
2.18 karat means 75% pure gold
3.14 karat means 58.3% pure gold
4.10 karat means 41.6% pure gold

The basic difference between 14K and 18K is % of gold. In 18K the % of gold is 75% and 25% is copper or other metal. But in case of 14K the % of gold 58.3% and other metal is 41.7%.
